About The Event

On August 1, Governor Healey changed the Massachusetts Family Shelter policy, forcing children and their families out of shelter with no safe place to sleep at night. This is a scary nightmare policy for these families. Join First Church Youth group in partnership with UU Mass Action: Youth Corps, Homes for All, MA Coalition for the Homeless, BIJAN, and more for a night of youth-led action calling on our leaders to restore the Right to Shelter!

All pre-movie events will take place at the First Parish in Arlington, 630 Massachusetts Ave, Arlington, MA 02476. (A regular flyer if you want to invite non-youth is here!)

  • Youth Pump(kin)-Up event 5-6 pm: We will have an open space in the church where we will have sign making, pumpkin decorating, learning about the Shetler issue, meeting other UU youth, and more! Prizes for people who complete 3 activities during this time! We hope you will join this fun pre-action portion of the event!  The UUMA team will make pasta, lentils, and snacks, so extra helpful if you RSVP here if you are a youth/planning to bring youth so we can have enough food!

  • Rally 6-7 pm: We will take action outside to protect the right to shelter with a rally! ALL invited (not just youth - adults/parents etc encouraged to join!)

  • Movie 7:30 pm: At the Capitol Theater in Arlington, UU Belmont's youth group will be renting out the theater for a movie screening of the movie 9.  (PG13). All middle and highschool youth are welcome. We expect this to be wrapped up by 9 pm. The movie will be free, popcorn and soda for free as well, and any other concessions will be additional.
