Tomorrow, November 9, will mark twenty years since the opening of the Berlin wall when a people broke down barriers and a nation began the process of reuniting. Membership Sunday is a celebration of voluntarily opening ourselves to new experiences and new relationships.

In a variety cultures autumn is the season of remembering the dead.Samhain in Celtic Europe, All Saints and All Souls Days in Christianity, Dia de Los Muertes in Mexico all have elements of this remembrance.

“Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I’m sixty-four?” The United Nations was founded on October 24, 1945, sixty-four years ago yesterday. It was established with hopes and dreams for what it could be and what the future of humanity could be.

Like so many hopes and dreams, it has failed to come to full fruition. And like so many hopes and dreams, that is because we ourselves have blocked them.
