David, a nearly lifelong Unitarian Universalist, is a 1991 graduate of Yale Divinity School.  David has been our Senior Minister since August of 2009. David describes himself as primarily a Humanist, but more fully as a Humanist in his head and a Universalist in his heart and as happy living with the contradiction: “There is no God, and after death we will all live in eternal bliss with God”.  He further states: “I believe in our Unitarian heritage of reason applied to religion and in our Universalist heritage of universal love”. Raised in New York City as the son of actor parents, Rev. Bryce has been married since 1980 to Eugenia “Genie” Kogan Bryce, a registered nurse. Their daughter Heather lives in Montpelier, Vermont. Prior to coming to The First Church in Belmont, David served as minister at the First Unitarian Society of Westchester, Hastings-On-Hudson, NY for 17 years.  A former human services administrator and counselor, he is strongly committed to issues of social justice–human rights, economic justice, and racial and sexual equality. His skills in counseling and administration were first developed in his 22 years as a mental health worker, a director of a telephone crisis counseling center, and a substance abuse counselor and administrator. During sabbaticals he studied congregational growth and honed his considerable counseling abilities in Clinical Pastoral Education helping the ill and dying.
