Children's Religious Education
Our Children's Religious Education program provides children with the opportunity for intellectual, personal, and spiritual growth. As a religious community we come together to explore and live the sacred. Our program provides a religious community where children are encouraged to ask questions, learn about Unitarian Universalism, discover aspects about world religions, explore spirituality and be in service for the larger community. All children from birth through grade eight, need to be registered for the RE program.

Sunday morning classes begin Sunday, September 11, 2016 for Nursery through Kindergarten-aged children. Grades 1 and above attend the multigenerational Water Communion Ingathering Service with their families.
On September 18, for those not at Sandy Island, there will be regular class for Nursery through Kindergarten and community games for grades 1 through 8.
Regular classroom lessons for grades 1 through 8 will begin on Sunday, September 25, 2016. The fall/winter term curriculum will focus on World Religions, followed in the winter/spring term by Social Action beginning in February.
Where do I drop off my child?
Nursery, preschool and Kindergarten-aged children begin in their classrooms at 9 and 11 o'clock. Children in grades 1 through 6 begin in the Sanctuary for the first portion of the service and then move to their classrooms at about 9:20 or 11:20. Except, on the first Sunday of each month, they gather in the Library instead of attending service in the Sanctuary. There is no 9:00 RE for grades 7 and 8.
Where and when do I pick up my child?
Sunday morning classes end at 10:15am and 12:15pm. Children in grades 3 and above will be released from class at those times. Children in grade 2 and younger must be picked up promptly by a parent at the end of classes.
What are the exceptions to the normal schedule?
On the first Sunday of each month, children in grades 1-6 gather in the Library for Children's Worship instead of attending service in the Sanctuary. On Major Music Sundays classes meet only at 10:30.
How is the schedule for the Building Bridges and OWL programs different from Grades 1-6?
The 7th grade class and 8th grade class participate in Building Bridges (see link on the right). This meets at 11am only. There is no 9am RE for these grades. 7th graders will do Building Bridges all year. 8th graders will do Building Bridges from Sept. - Dec..
