The First Church has two governing bodies: the Parish Board and the Program Council. There are no bishops or elders overseeing First Church. The congregation, through the Parish Board and in collaboration with the Minister and staff, makes all decisions about church operations and mission.
The Parish Board is responsible for certain legal functions such as signing contracts; is responsible for addressing strategic issues such as growth; oversees the church’s property and finances, and reviews and evaluates long-range plans. Members are elected to three year terms.
The Program Council is comprised of the chairs of the Program Standing Committees and strives to coordinate themes and promote collaboration among the various committees and groups within the church.
Each year an Annual Report is produced which summarizes the finances, vision, budget and activities of the church and its many volunteer groups.
