Major Music Service this Sunday!

Join us all this Sunday at 10:30 for the annual Major Music service! This exciting service brings together our own First Church Choir with a full professional orchestra to present one of CPE Bach’s most well-loved works – his Magnificat. With electrifying choruses, and alternately beautiful and fiery arias, this piece is a wonderful way to ring in the holiday season. The service will feature our four wonderful soloists, Chuck Claus, Davron Monroe, Irina Kareva, and Melanie Bacaling. Additional solos to be sung by Livia Racz, Roger Read, Ariane Frank, Bruce Kozuma, and Melanie Salisbury.

The orchestra is comprised of Ken Stalberg, Concertmaster, with Stanley Silverman, Barbara Engelsberg, and Emily Dahl on violin, Noralee Walker on viola, Rachel Gawell on cello, Deb Jones on bass, Robin Pyle, Greg Gettel and Chris Belluscio on trumpet, James Hampson and Marina Krickler on horn, Colleen McElroy and Terry D’Errico on flute, Veronica Kenney and Lisa Putukian on oboe, Robin Hilyard on bassoon, Evan Louden on timpani, and Dylan Sauerwald on harpsichord.

The text of the work is taken from the Song of Mary, which is the joyful song that the Virgin Mary sings when she meets her cousin Elizabeth and discovers she is pregnant. The words, from the Book of Luke and sung in Latin, are a song of praise to God for all of the wonderful things which He has accomplished.

Please join us for a wonderful morning of joyful music!
