This week, activity in the music program is revolving heavily around rehearsals for the musical, The Wizard of Oz. The children are working hard to memorize all of their lines and songs, as well as the blocking and choreography. Dance rehearsals are about to begin, which will add yet another dimension to their work on stage! In addition to the rehearsals, countless people are working behind the scenes, building and painting the set, organizing ticket sales, bringing in props, and much more. It truly takes a village to pull something like this off! I hope to see many of you there for the shows, November 12-15. Details about tickets will be released quite soon.
In addition to the musical, we are also working on the music for the services each week. Tomorrow the senior choir will be singing a wonderful modern piece by Herbert Howells, a 20th Century English organist, composer, and teacher. The piece, “Like as the Hart desireth the Waterbrooks,” compares one’s longing for the divine with a creature’s need for water, and contains some gorgeous melodies and an ethereally beautiful organ accompaniment. The Nova Choir also sings at 9am tomorrow, with a lovely piece by Franz Schubert, “God of Wisdom, God of Glory.” We hope you can join us for one of the services!
