Welcome back from the Parish Board President

I hope everyone had a great summer including a moment to rest, an opportunity for some adventures, and a chance to get recharged for the fall. To start the year off, I want to invite all of you to the Welcome Back Reception being held this Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Dylan Sauerwald, our new Organist/Assistant Music Director, will provide some entertainment to start the reception. I encourage all members of the congregation, as well as to visitors of First Church, to come – it’s a great chance to find out what is going on at the church, to reconnect with old friends, and to make some new acquaintances.

The summer has been relatively (blissfully) quiet at the church, and we are ready for an exciting new year ahead. This fall will mark the beginning of a number of changes for us.
After 55 years under the direction of Alfa Radford, the Music Program will now be led by Ian Garvie, our new Director of Music, who will have a new collaborator, Dylan Sauerwald, who starts this fall as our Organist and Assistant Music Director. We’re all looking forward to working with them in the coming years, and listening to the great music they will lead us in and create for us. With these transitions, we also want to thank Mary Beekman for her years of service and the many great musical memories she provided us with.
Many of you may notice that the look and feel of the Church’s web site and the Unitarian have been revamped and freshened up – many thanks to Robin Hughes, Janice Zazinski, and the Communications Committee for leading this up this initiative over the summer. I think they’ve done a phenomenal job. Also in the IT realm, the next phases of the Church membership database will be rolled out to the congregation over the course of the year. So, stay tuned for more.
Finally, during services this year, we’ll all be thanking Lanier Smythe, Ed Bing and the members of the Committee as we enjoy the new pew cushions! Not only do they look great, but, having tried them out, I think everyone will be happy with the great “support” that they’ll provide to the congregation.
I greatly look forward to serving as your President this coming year. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments, suggestions or thoughts.
