First Church’s own keyboardist and singer, Richard Curzi, returns to the Second Friday Coffeehouse for the thirteenth time (on Friday the Thirteenth!), performing both sets in a variety of musical configurations guaranteed to delight lovers of all music genres.
This year’s show will be an all “unplugged” acoustic performance of an unconventionally eclectic mix of original songs, nostalgic pop, jazz, and folk styles. The group will feature several new songs by Singer / Songwriter Bridget Curzi (who performed earlier this year as a Coffeehouse opener). They also plan to perform some classic hits – but with a new and original twist. Several of these will be drawn from the repertoire of the Blood Mountain Brothers – a Belmont-based group that Richard and Paul Judge have participated in for several years. Also two high-school virtuosi from the First Church community and 2 Berklee College students will get to show their skills in cameo appearances with the group.

Positive Energy has audiences saying “We were in a frenzy of delight – I can’t remember smiling so much!” The band is a benefit concert favorite, that drew a sellout crowd and raised over $11,000 for Haiti, and over $8,000 for the Belmont Parents of Music Students (POMS). Featuring (left to right in the above photo) Jerry Twomey on guitar, Roger Read on vocals and mandolin, Mark Kohler on drums and percussion, Hannah Read on flute, Richard Curzi on piano and vocals, Angelina Mbulo on vocals, Paul Judge on guitar and vocals, Bridget Curzi on vocals and guitar, and Rick Dimino on bass. With guest appearances by Rowan Wolf on sax, a well as Egyptian Berklee College student Ahmad El Haggar on vocals and oud.
