Come One, Come All to the 2nd Annual Holiday Gift Fair sponsored by the Social Action Committee.  The Fair will be held on Sunday, December 5 from 10:00 am – 1:30 pm in the Parish Hall.

Does your Holiday shopping need a shot in the arm?  Looking for a unique gift that will indisputably receive ooohs and ahhhs?  Trying desperately to spend your hard earned money on gifts that benefit something other than large corporations?  Come to the Holiday Gift Fair and buy gifts that give twice.  Experience the pleasure of knowing your purchasing power is really working to help people in so many ways.  Discover unique gifts that support fragile situations and worthy causes.  There are wonderful gifts for everyone on your list, so please join us at this festive occasion.

New at the Holiday Fair this year: The Alternative Gifts Program

The Social Action Committee is starting a program we are sure church members will want to support. Inspired by the successful Alternative Giving Program which our neighbors at Old South Church in Boston  began several years ago, we hope you will join us as we offer another way to make gift giving a meaningful and rewarding experience for both the giver and the receiver.

The Alternative Gifts Program enables friends and members of our congregation to make gifts commemorating special occasions and at the same time supporting nonprofit organizations in our community and beyond. Through this program, a person wishing to give a gift selects a charity they wish to designate in honor of the person receiving the gift. This charity can be selected from the list which the Social Action Committee has drawn up. It can also be a charity of the gift giver’s choosing.

A special card will be sent by the church to your friend, family member, colleague or client, informing them that an Alternative Gift has been made in their honor. These “gifts from the heart and spirit” are a wonderful way to honor loved ones, friends, colleagues or clients who would be pleased to know that their gift was furthering the work of organizations dedicated to making our community a more caring and compassionate place.

Fill out the Alternative Gift form available at the Holiday Fair, select an organization to whom you wish to give a gift and include a check made payable to that organization with your form.

Your donation will be forwarded to the organization that you choose and the individual you wish to honor will receive a special card telling him/her of your generosity.

List of Charitable Organizations: UUSC, UUUM, Grow Clinic, Belmont Food Pantry, Care, Heifer International, Doctors Without Borders, Youthbuild

If you would like to choose your own charity, please provide the name and address of the organization.

If you should have further questions about this program, please contact Laurie Carter Noble or anyone on the Social Action Committee.
